Have you ever heard someone rant and rave about how hard their life is? They go on and on about how their life is a battle. When we are in tough situations or things don’t go right we feel like we are the only person being wronged. In fact, everyone goes through hard times. And why do we insist on expressing and debating who has it worse?
The truth is we all sometimes just need to be wronged. Don’t understand? Check out my post on
Why Not Just be Wronged?
Even with that, we have no right to complain. If you feel you got things bad, check out my other post
What are you Doing with your Life?
On another note though, I was reading in the book of 2 Chronicles for the past couple days and I was reading the story of Jehoshaphat defeating Moab and Ammon in Chapter 20. This battle reminds me of so many battles I have been in my life. Not physical battles, but we are all living in a spiritual battle. Sadly, many don’t even know it and are just sitting down and not fighting, just being mutilated by the world.
I love how Jehoshaphat handled this news of the upcoming battle. Instead of freaking out and getting upset – He turned to the only one he knew he had to rely on.
Jehoshaphat bowed with his face to the ground, and all the people of Judah and Jerusalem fell down in worship before the Lord. Then some Levites from the Kohathites and Korahites stood up and praised the Lord, the God of Israel, with very loud voice.
– 2 Chronicles 20:18-19
As they were heading off to Battle, Jehoshaphat prepped his men for battle, not with “GET THE ENEMY, SLAUGHTER THEM! MAKE THEM YOUR LUNCH.” But rather with encouragement saying,
“Have faith in the Lord your God and you will be upheld; have faith in his prophets and you will be successful.”
-2 Chronicles 20:20
The started the battle with praise, as he had men march out ahead of them praising the Lord! Singing “Give Thanks to the Lord, for his Love endures forever!” With these shouts of praise, I believe God sent angels out ahead of them and destroyed their enemies because when they arrived at the battle field this is what happened,
They saw only dead bodies lying on the ground; no one had escaped. So Jehoshaphat and his men went to carry off their plunder, and they found among them a great amount of equipment and clothing and also articles of value – more than they could take away. There was so much plunder that it took three days to collect it. On the fourth day they assembled in the Valley of Beracah, where they praised the Lord.
– 2 Chronicles 20:24-26
God gave them rest for the years following. We need to be consistent with this when we are facing battles. God fights our battles, we just need to praise him and be obedient to march forward. A lot of the time we can get discouraged and fearful and it causes us to step back and that is exactly what the devil intends.
Instead – lets be victorious over our enemy!
Having faith in our Lord!
Knowing he has already won the battle ahead!
And praise him after for the plunder we get from being obedient!
Let’s laugh at our enemy as we face those hard times in life.
