Are You Assisting Your Brothers Destruction?

Sometimes being a helping hand is not always the wisest choice. Just take a look at the next saying that Solomon left us.

Do not be one who shakes hands in pledge
or puts up security for debts; if you lack the means to pay,
your very bed will be snatched from under you. (Proverbs 22:26, 27 NIV)

Shaking hands in pledge or putting something up as security is actually a promise that If you do not have means to pay your debt that they can take that which is actually yours in turn for your debt.

I’m the NASB it suggests being a guarantor for debt or for example co-signing for someone else’s debt. It suggests not to do such things. If that who you are trying to help is not able to pay, they can come and take your own belongings. And although in this example- Solomon is referring to the place where you lay your head down to sleep. Well in this time it is not uncommon for the entire family to lay in one bed. It is one thing to offer your bed for someone else but to offer your whole family’s bed is a whole other story.

Don’t forget also that this is not just giving up your family’s bed for another man’s family… But rather to help another man’s family go further into debt. We need to be careful that we are not assisting a brother or sister to fall into debt themselves.

Take time today to pray, and ask God if there is someplace that perhaps you are assisting, a friend or someone you know, to fall into an area such as debt. Perhaps he will show you someone that you can help get out of debt. A helping hand does not have to mean a hand out or a hand given… You could be the person to help give another the wisdom needed to get out of debt.

Also ask God how your doing with your finance.
